KITES

kite fishing miamiThere are many kite manufacturing companies.  But don’t fret, they are all relatively the same and function in the same manner.  What many will not do is fly WET.  Varying wind conditions call for different classes of kites.  You have extra light kites for conditions with little to no wind, all the way through gale force wind kites for winds 25 knots +.  You will more than likely choose an all-purpose kite like the medium wind kite that will fly in winds from 8-15 knots. Adjustments to the bridal in the center of the kite will make the kite fly higher or lower.  Also, adding small split shot weights to either side will make the kite shift to that direction allowing you a wider spread behind the boat.  Checking the weather channel outlook for the day should be a common habit of any avid fisherman right along with the fishing reports and local tides.  Always check the weather conditions and make the safest choice according to your experience.  After you know what the winds are going to be doing for that day then you can make the appropriate choice on kites and if you should use weights on your lines or not.
