Fishing tackle can become really confusing and downright expensive. Kite fishing does involve the use of several other types of equipment to fish effectively but to start conventional reels and 6-7 ft 20-30lb rods are a good rule of thumb. If you were just starting out, 30lb test fishing line would probably be the best choice. With experience you can scale down the fishing line as low as 8lb test. So choosing a conventional reel that can accommodate at least 350 yds of the highest pound test line would be a good choice.
